[ 250. The One With GCE (A) lvls ]

yeah. after so long i finally can take a breather and blog. shall start with GP paper ba on 4 Nov, Thursday . i think it proved to be quite a shocking paper, or rather both papers to some of the students. cos the topics to choose frm didnt really fit wat we have studied and planned for.

This year strangely has only 1 social question and only 2 questions on singapore.

1. To what extent are the young in Singapore favoured at the expense of the elderly?

2. Are the poor an inevitable feature of any society?

3. Do the past and present offer any guidance for the future?

4. 'How inventions and discoveries are used is not the concern of the scientist.' Do you agree?

5. 'People, not the government, should decide how to organise their lives.' Is this a fair comment?

6. How far is recycling the answer to the problem of waste?

7. Can small countries have a significant voice in world affairs?

8. Advertising encourages a desire for products which people do not actually need. Discuss.

9. Have multi-national businesses had a positive or negative impact on your society?

10. Discuss the appeal and value of fantasy stories and films.

11. Discuss the importance of religion in society today.

12. 'Far too much attention is given to beauty products and treatments.' Do you agree?

phew... so wat would u choose? lucky i had a lot of examples that geared towards qn 9 abt MNCs. i wasted 15 mins at first doing essay plan for the poverty question... then i changed so wasted quite some time... somemore i was sitting in the first row and the fan kept blowing in my direction. contacts so dry and burr... so cold.

lucky not many people do the same question as me...

well, just when we think paper 1 was hard, paper 2 even harder... Passage 1 about choices. Passage 2 about destiny... so philosophical type of passages.

'Alongside the increased prosperity which is gradually, but all too slowly, spreading across the world, has been a movement (arguably not unconnected with this increase) away from centralised, totalitarian forms of government towards democracies...'

What is the author trying to imply by 'arguably not unconnected with this increase'?

-_- most of the questions now asking what the author trying to mean, what contrast, contradiction they tried to show. the effort and skill to rephrase the idea with your own words are so different from O lvl where you can substitute word for word.

but overall, i think i fare better than my prelims :] so pray hard i can prove my GP tutor that he's wrong to fail me all these while. haha.

then it was chem paper on 8 Nov, Monday . The paper easier than prelim and i think i did quite ok. juz that the food chemistry was kinda tough cos i missed out studying the colour of meat. 3 marks gone :( praying for an A for chem...

then came today the most-headache day of my life. 9 Nov, Tuesday . Biology core paper in the morning from 8-10am and then maths paper 1 from 2-5pm.

oh, i was almost late today cos i missed the bus 86. so have to take 159 and have to walk a long distance cos the back gate wasnt open... holiday le still dun wan to open... i had to run quite far to the front gate. but there was this very kind lady who was driving and she stopped and lowered the window. 'Hey, you want me to give you a ride to your school?' i was stunned but nevertheless, the gesture really touched me. but i dun wan to trouble her so i thanked her and continue running. i felt so delighted and it really made my day. even though i reached school 5 mins b4 the paper, not having enough time to read my notes, i still felt quite good.

the paper was quite ez, there was no question that was too hard to answer. but the easier the paper, the more prone i am in making careless mistakes. lucky i didnt study so hard for bio, cos a lot of stuff didnt come out. but sad that i also didnt spend much time studying maths...

i went to have a volleyball game on sun, the day before my chem paper. lol. ya many would think i am crazy. but it really relieved stress for me... and last minute cramming no use, cos what i read at night never came out for exam...

then yesterday also went to play a bit wif my friend. started reading bio only like 8pm. lol. but i got all my notes ready so juz nid to read again.

maths paper was ok. supposedly an ez paper but as usual, my maths so lousy that even ez questions i also have problems. only paper 2 can save me. so now i have 6 days to practise.

i was so tired after bio, i had to take a nap and woke up like 12+ to study for maths. quite surprised i still able to survive the paper even though i didnt memorise much of the formula. mentally drained

now that half of the heavy papers are done with, i am more relaxed. so now shall take a short break and relax myself for such a hectic day today. who put biology and maths on the same day should be shot! those taking physics only have more time to prepare. cos physics is next week! :(
