..:: 362. The One With Shout-out ::..
arghz. really need to vent my anger i guess. cos my camera cable has gone missing and i could not upload my commissioning pix. my buddy saw this friend of mine take the cable but he denied having it. how you tell me? confront meh? i really hate this. there were a few incidents where people came into my bunk and took my camera cos they need the pix for course video. Hello? At least let me know, not my buddy? i have to ask in order to know where my camera was. Now i have to go down to the HQ to buy a cable. what the fuck? It's at bukit merah.
Now i cannot show you the star of the commissioning parade... Anyway my contingent kinda screw up during the march past. so much for being professional, once we were out of step, most of them started swearing. (fuck) until one lady at the grandstand was telling her friends 'wah they swear leh'. my friend in front of me started to march same hand same leg. *gasps* i almost fainted. well, i still stood tall, braced myself and tactically changed step and warned my dear friend he was walking like he's having 'tua lan pa' (aka big balls). Then i had to give soft timing to ease the tension. Everyone was wondering why we could be in wrong step even with the drum beat, but based on my experience in footdrill, the reasons are as follow:
while waiting to make a turn, the whole contingent was busy reminding each other to lock our arms, brace our knees, look up, etc, everyone was whispering something...
then came the long command and it dragged...
and we slowed down our pace while anticipating the command...
once we turned, we were actually only a bit slower, if the rest has the same situational awareness... we just needed to swing a bit faster but someone hinted 'hey we are on the wrong step'. everyone started shifting steps and some even looked down! arghz. i thought the most basic rule is to look smart and never look down?
well i think only those who know and appreciate drills would understand what i am saying. right? samuel? lol.
commissioning dinner. gosh, it was a chinese cuisine. 6 course and i hardly can feel anything inside my stomach after the dinner. but then so many people, it's understandable.
CGH. made a trip to changi general hospital to seek a cure for my 2-week old cough. X-ray showed that i'm normal. but sadly after i took the antibiotics i developed fever. Went back to nee soon camp to return stores feeling sick the whole morning. luckily we got half day off, while others went out i was at home sleeping for 16 hours. Sleeping is really a fucking waste of time but i thought rest= recovery. NAH. i went to my new unit feeling as sick as the day before.
30 SCE. my unit for the year 2006 :) we are under this 'unit induction programme'. sounds nice huh but it's one of the most fucked up thing in my whole NS life. after being an officer still must get tekan. what the hell? All in the name of being 'initiated' or tekan i would say. seriously the seniors dun really have to 'threaten' us by saying 'dun worry the pain is temporary...' 'take it in good stride, it's just tekan' 'we will educate you dun worry'. for fuck? i know they want to prepare us but i just hate them saying all that. i mean just bring it on la.
the whole lot of us were not happy about this initiation. everyone in fact wanted to boycott it but it has been a tradition. And what's the point of telling us that there was this guy who was sick but he rang the bell (give up?) and in the end did not get any respect from the seniors? so threatening us again?
once again they have warned us after office hours, we have to be careful. Sometimes it's not that we cannot take the shit they giving us, it's just that we have been taught to have purpose in whatever we do or asking your men to do. you can come and bullshit about discipline and regimentation and i can look into your eyes full of birdshit that you are so blinded and that it's all about tekan and the shallow fact 'my seniors did this to me so based on tradition we have to do it' so much for being officers and changing the system for the better. perhaps 3G soldiers really start from thinking soldiers like us. Our batch has decided to do away with the ridiculous initiation of tekaning for the sake of it but to continue the tradition of initiation we would replace it with activities that are more meaningful and not to instill plain fear.
anyway anything the seniors are doing that is not in the lesson plan they have planned, they are in deep shit. so they trying to teach us to do something that is not planned? arent they supposed to impart correct values to us during initiation?
initiation can bond you guys even closer. as my senior says. oh so you saying our cadet course hasnt done a good job? or is it that we will unite and fight back? Once again i must emphasize it's not that we do not have sportsmanship.
i guess i shant bore you all with my rantings... just to let those who are interested in my army stories know more ridiculous things happening?
