..:: 406. The One With ETEP ::..
the most painful moment was at the airport seeing the cadets coming back from thailand and warning us of the hot weather back there.
2 weeks passed so fast and here i am back in singapore. 'fought' etep aka EX SAPPERSTAR, spending 2 weeks in thailand was dreadful even the rest and recreation (R&R) did not entice any of us.
the weather for the first few days could not get any hotter. I could get sunburnt by walking around in the camp. The bunk was like sauna. then i think it helped when we went to pray in the temple for good weather and success in our missions.
Perhaps pray a bit too hard, the first two days were drizzle to showers. As u all know first few days meant deployment so whatever we dug became waterlogged. My men had to suffer under the cold weather, many were shivering throughout the night. I pitied them, the commanders however were at the tentage busy planning for our missions, updating maps, etc. A few men from my coy got hypothemia and had to send back to medical centre in camp.
The pace of the whole etep was so fast, i was so engrossed in meeting mission requirements and timing that the week passed so fast. My whole platoon was really put under battle stress, had sudden orders for us to do 'special' mission, which i had to AOP to my battalion commanding officer (CO) in a short span of 30 mins.
I'm glad my platoon did well, they fought etep hard and i guess the main motivation came from being able to 'ORD' soon. most importantly, my platoon no one fell out! it's one achievement cos my platoon got a few guys got medical status, back prob and stuff, but i insisted them to follow along and see their limits. i'm glad they are as motivated as me to complete ETEP. engineer training evaluation programme.
during this period, i really bonded with my men even R&R i was sitting with them for meals and when they are civilians, they have a lot to offer and teach. After all, all my men were older than me, some as old as 23.
Pics update coming up.
i miss sitting in my office. my mailbox confirm overload.

..:: 405. The One With Taiwan ::..
Dun be shocked. i have just changed my blog template. make it simple and i can enlarge my pictures.
well been a week and i think i left my heart at taiwan. btw, yes, i went for a holiday from 5-9 may to taipei. lots of stuff happened and i almost could not make it for the trip.
that day, my supervising officer for one of the exercise in thailand wanted me to AOP (approval of plan) to my battalion 2IC. Firstly, we didnt make an appointment so it was kinda like try our luck, if he's there then we will have AOP. Hence, i went to look for B2 but to no avail and he would only be back in the afternoon. BUT i cant wait... i have to be at the airport at 1100. Expecting the worst, i revealed that i had to catch a flight and my SO (punt intended) threw me 2 options.
1. postponed the trip
2. cancel the trip
Obviously i said 'no' to both and i guess as much he could not do anything. though he claimed he can actually charge me but he dun wan. (wah, i must be so thankful to him). I proposed to present on the 10th which i know would not be a good day cos we have lots of briefing and kit bag inspection but that's the latest day.
he reaffirmed my fears and mentioned that 'everyone will be waiting for you to AOP. you are the biggest fuck you know?'
my eyes widened. my heart skipped a bit.
then he mentioned 'your planning very good... plan your trip this time so you can siam this right?'
i tried hard to understand his point. why would i want to 'siam' the AOP, i knew i have to do it anyway.
I left after he said 'Go, go, i'll tell your OC and B2 that you cancel the AOP.'
i could not hear anymore from him. in the first place, the appointment has not been made so what's with me 'cancelling' the AOP?
i left for the trip with so many things on my mind. i thought i would not be able to enjoy.
But luckily, i had a great grp of friends with me. The day didnt start well for me, i realised i have changed for the wrong currency when i was going to pay for the hotel. i was utterly shocked at how i was so distracted at the airport when i changed my money. I remember saying taiwan when the counter gal asked me what currency i wanted to change. in the end i got thai baht but yet i didnt realise. how silly i was...
what's worse, we reached there fri night and the banks are closed over the weekends, hence i could only changed on mon. No buying of stuff for the first 2 days? i could have just died.
I love the hotel we stayed in, 内江饭店 was a great one. cheap 150 sing for 5 days and the customer service is damn good, especially one of the aunties, we always play ard with her, teased her... but she would go all the way by helping us call different agencies like 六福 village, shuttle bus services and most importantly helped me find a lady who changes currency. Lucky me i got money to spend by sun night.
Fri. 5th
our flight got delayed so in the end we reached our hotel like close to 10pm. got changed and we toured around ximen ding. hot spot, good for shopping. In the end we decided to try food from their roadstalls which turned out to be very yummy. first was to try the chicken chop. Then we went to catch Silent Hill at one of their cinemas. for 10 bucks you get a popcorn meal too. not bad a deal for a weekend movie.
the cinema quite lork kok (run down). The projector was not high enough so you can see people's head as they streamed to their seats. Sound effect lagi best, like watching two movies together... i could hear MI 3 sound effects but was not that bad, only when the scene got quiet. The movie was gross, scary but very nice. I was not keen on watching but in the end left feeling the money was well spent.
Sat. 6th

morning went shopping at ximen ding again. Their CDs were cheap! 15 bucks for latest CDs and they arrived faster! Tried their ma la huo guo. One of the waitresses looked like jolin. sweet :)

too bad she didnt look up.
it was quite common to see such signature sessions in ximen ding.

their most common transport is bike. wearing cute masks is a common sight too.

Sat night we went to club. They played a mixture of hip hop, trance and chinese songs! omg. some of the chinese remixes were gd but the hip hop ones were the same remixes as singapore. So sad many couldnt hum to the tune of 'dont forget about us' by mariah carey.
I must say the girls there are sweet. We went to a lot of shops and surely bump into a few sweet cute girls. Not like some local girls so 'stuck up'. But their jap-influence damn strong and also jolin and rainie yang fever quite hot there.
Sun. 7th
We went to 六福 village which was a theme park. damn fun rides. paid 890 bucks to go in. which is like close to 50 sing but lucky the rides no need to pay. went there ard 9am and came back abt 5+, got changed and took train to shilin night market. Shopping spree!
first thing at the village i was welcomed by a couple of horny dogs!

some interesting rides...

look at their funny spelling errors!
height="400" width = "500" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting">
after the night market we still not tired... so we decided to go ktv! their 'partyworld' damn big. it's like a hotel itself. but for 17 sing we could sing and eat. plus each room got their own toilet! so convenient. and the food is good loh.

saw this in a shopping centre...

oh also dun bother going to taipei 101, the so called tallest building with shopping centre. It's like paragon. unless you want to buy high end products then go there. cos have to take train to shi zhen station and walk like 15 mins. kinda far cos we didnt want to wait for the shuttle bus service.
their underground shopping mall cant compare to our city link.
but their customer service and discipline damn good. lol discipline? u might be wondering... i guess they are not as kiasu as singaporeans. When they go up or down the escalator, everyone automatically stands on the right, you can see a distinct clear path on the left if you decide to walk up. I never seen anyone standing one the left not moving. it was such a pleasant sight.
Also, they queued very orderly while waiting to board and they only entered after the last person came out. I left the train last a few times to prove they are consistent and it was the case!
Gosh now i miss taiwan... more pics will be up cos we took a lot of pics with my fren's camera.

Today i went to attend a talk with my aunt on 'eternity of life' by SSA - Singapore SOKA Association. kind of enlightening... learnt that they pray to Nichiren Daishonin, a buddha who discovered the Lotus Sutra. They prayed to Gohonzon which looked like a script encased in a glass container. Not your typical figures though. They have this book called gosho where they read and chant 'Nam-myoho-renge-kyo'.
They firmly believed in cause and effect: karma. and there is life after death but not in the physical form. It's just like they mentioned, same as principle of conservation of energy, energy cannot be created nor destroyed. hence, the karmic energy just like your other energies followed the theory. The 'causes' form in the present manifest as 'effects' in the future.
It is not death we need to fear but our innate weaknesses and delusions.
Longevity is itself a treasure. How you live is more important than how long you live.
Somehow it provides me courage to face death not as terrifying unknown but as normal phase of existence.
Just felt like sharing what i have experienced today :)
In a few hours time i'm off to thailand. wish me luck.
Btw i am going brunei as auxillary instructor to the cadets. :) my wish came true.

..:: 404. The One With Long Weekend ::..
Firstly, i am glad my platoon's morale is high enough to carry us through crescendo, thailand. hopefully their spirits can be kept as high. I am very glad i got to be their PC and i found myself very attached to the platoon. To such an extent, i think almost every other day i would go up their bunk to chat with them, find out what is bothering them and the training. Even my punishment was kinda fun, i had the lucky draw concept to let them draw their own punishment. 2nd yr soldiers no use ask them to knock it down. i strongly believe and it has become my working principle that 'everything you do must have a purpose'. my platoon knew that this was built in me, therefore they would follow whatever i say which has proved effective.
I am actually looking forward to the overseas exercise. done a commander appraisal recently and i am so thrilled to know that my men would mention 'fight the war all the way for me' we shall see. platoon 12 smallest but mightest.
sat went dinner at some jap restuarant with shannen, angeline, ee ling and eng kee. i had noodles and rice! but not full. but developed stomach problems. perhaps drink too much green tea? i didnt eat very fast though. outing with them has always been a joy. so much laughter. all the (cant find a word to sub MCP for a female version). not really feminist, bitching... but it's about changing policies and attitudes of organisation and people around us. If anyone needs a template to lodge complain can find them! haha. but it's all for the good of the society. they should be in the parliament! replace PAP and workers' party!

then we went dbl o. retro, not my type but crowd was good. drinks also dirt cheap. saw a few friends and a weird guy from ipoh, malaysia came talking to me. 'oh you dance very well'. i was afraid. like wth. but being friendly and people pleaser 24/7, i chatted with him. he was a make-up artist. i believe it was for people who are alive, not embalming. cos at least he got some dress sense not like my friend who wore a tee shirt from thailand! arghz.
sun. i met my foxtrot friends to go sentosa. sun was good, vball was gd, got to know a few girls. though they seriously got ballophobia (read:fear of balls). oops sounds wrong. i mean they are more afraid of the pain. i find myself picking the ball more than playing. hence we were shack after a few games. :(

then went to have dinner with my mum. owe her a treat. for her birthday, she wanted this o-biang bag which i think taste goes with age. the older you are, the more o-biang stuff u will fancy. well for now this hypothesis applies on my mum. those who have similar mums (lol), high 5.
then went to meet my friends who are going taiwan with me. too tired to ktv. just stoned there and then left.
mon. stoned at home. apply exit permit. downloaded HBO show, six feet under, damn nice. and a few movies.
i dont think i can take any more excessive liquor. i guess my liver cant take it. cos i am feeling pain around that region. gosh, gotta go see doctor some day soon.

disclaimer: no pics will be available for this entry.
firstly, i did not have my dear camera with me when i am the most happening.
secondly, zouk also don't allow cameras.

was the day i 'organised' a dinner gathering for my hwa chong classmates. it was a bad timing indeed, most of them having exams so only the future doctors from medicine came as theirs ended. but most of the time i was listening to them pouring out their worries abt getting 'vivas' which were apparently board interviews with a panel of professors. You could be called for if u are borderline pass/fail cases or u are a distinction vivas. Anyway learnt a few stuff thru' their conversation of what they had to study and some sick classmates (read:perverted) they had.
oh btw we had lunch at PS cafe cartel. nice food. lots of bread. then i met red cross buddies like weishan, yuhui and a few juniors. this time i had lots to talk cos we were chatting on everything under the sun, from red cross training to movies.
then it's zouk time. went in first person i saw was steven who led me to a table where i met my sispec friend, cheng hao. then saw my ocs friends, wee ping, jason then yi ying. it was mood-for-drinking day, i had like 8 different shots.
during the 1-for-1 period, i decided to try drinks i saw on tv or recommended ones. steven (super-nice-guy) treated me blower and sex on the beach.
then i had lots of lychee martini and could even treat ed, sam, maureen and her 4 frenz.
i also had tequila neat when i treated my ocs friend-cum-future doctor, kelven. i guess my PR not bad, somehow know a lot of doctors. lol.
treated again my sispec friend flaming lamborghini but he treated me back with graveyard.
i also had cosmopolitian which was kinda tasteful with vodka, gin and raspberry. had illusion courtesy of maureen's friend.
not forgetting my friend opened bottle, chivas. wah tasted like cockroach brew. i was tipsy and damn high, on the verge of puking but i guess i got it under control. it was actually the 'burping' feeling, not really vomitting. cos gulped down most of the drinks. lucky i had a great dinner, if not sure gastric.
then went down abt 2+ to geylang for supper with my friends who were weirdly interested in exploring the red light district. from phillipino breed to chinese to thai. (read:sorry if i use breed though i should not discrimate). listened to interesting facts and terms but shant reveal here. anyway, i felt kinda sleasy. especially when i encountered pimps for the first time. anyway after enough wandering around, we left the place and headed home.
ok but to the materialistic me. what are the 5 signs you know a person is in a fashion crisis?
5. trendspotting in the streets aka observing people.
4. visits websites from abercrombie & fitch, espirit, topshop, etc.
3. desperately want to own membership cards like espirit, topman, etc. most of the time you need to spend $150 to get one. and the blogger has 2 within 2 days.
2. views 'discounts' as money saved to buy more.
and
1. donates clothes from girdarno (damn, cant even spell it), hang ten, bossini (no offence to all)

the day i went on a tour around sim lim square, in search for my laptop. was so stressed not to buy the wrong laptop. got to choose between ACER and ASUS. the stats were the best of the current laptop models in the market.
i was told i had to pay cash. never had i seen so many $50 notes in my life, was actually looking around for thieves. lol. for the first time, i knew i had a limit on the amount i could draw which was 2000 for posb.
anyway, the lady was nice to fix up my laptop for a 1.5GB DDR2 instead of my current 1GB for free.
in the end, spending $2698 sent me home feeling good.
at least i know i have some computer allowance to claim.
on fri, had dinner with my best gal friend at changing appetite at marina square. It's like cafe cartel without the free flow of bread but with 10% discount.
marina square is so big, only been there twice. can do a lot of shopping. funan it mall also but i cant wear stuff from there though :(
seems like i have been spending a lot huh, but dun fret, i had set aside a lump sum to save and most of my money also used to give my parents and pay for home bills. hey, i am considering as a working adult now, must contribute right?
my com died and so did my modem. had to rush down to PS starhub branch to purchase one at 99 bucks! it's not cheap. lol.
then met my buddies, andy, melvin, jeremy, samuel for drinks at andy's bar. we then proceeded to kbox at peace centre, selegie from 12 to 4am. had fun singing weird songs.
oh btw off-topic: currently immersed in jason mraz's songs, he's such a great musician. geek in the pink, o-lover. btw i got a 250gb hard disk too for entertainment purpose. i am loaded with movies and remixes!
next week aim: lie low
duty officer on sat.
ciao.

anyway, the lady was nice to fix up my laptop for a 1.5GB DDR2 instead of my current 1GB for free.
in the end, spending $2698 sent me home feeling good.
at least i know i have some computer allowance to claim.
on fri, had dinner with my best gal friend at changing appetite at marina square. It's like cafe cartel without the free flow of bread but with 10% discount.
marina square is so big, only been there twice. can do a lot of shopping. funan it mall also but i cant wear stuff from there though :(
seems like i have been spending a lot huh, but dun fret, i had set aside a lump sum to save and most of my money also used to give my parents and pay for home bills. hey, i am considering as a working adult now, must contribute right?
my com died and so did my modem. had to rush down to PS starhub branch to purchase one at 99 bucks! it's not cheap. lol.
then met my buddies, andy, melvin, jeremy, samuel for drinks at andy's bar. we then proceeded to kbox at peace centre, selegie from 12 to 4am. had fun singing weird songs.
oh btw off-topic: currently immersed in jason mraz's songs, he's such a great musician. geek in the pink, o-lover. btw i got a 250gb hard disk too for entertainment purpose. i am loaded with movies and remixes!
next week aim: lie low
duty officer on sat.
ciao.

..:: 402. The One With Shopping Spree ::..
too long never update cos i got two weekend duties.
housewarming at jeremy's house. i 'recruited' more people to be 'sex and the city' fans. lol. nice house at amk, grandeur. the full length windows made the whole place seem bright and big. can also ogle at people at the swimming pools.

promotion ceremony, i am now a PCO: principal cadet officer. 20 yrs old can take a platoon of men to war but cannot handle safety of a platoon of sec sch cadets? something to think about. anyway not sore abt it. cos after all it's just voluntary work. i desperately need to focus more on red cross. been bz with army stuff for too long.

my sec sch juniors and teacher-in-charge

got a free pair of tickets from red cross to go watch a play at raffles jubilee hall. doubt. actors include lim yu beng, pamela oei and nora samosir. The play debates the need for moral clarity and questions the role of faith in both our public and private lives. It also searches for a definition of sexual abuse. Intriguing story line and i enjoyed a few laughs throughout the show.
This play got me interested to watch the upcoming Burn The Floor, a dance performance. However, i still dunno whether it is worth spending the money and living off with memories... nothing tangible unlike...
my shopping spree! lol. surprisingly i got my backpay one day earlier. so sinful. shant reveal my pay but i actually spend 400 bucks on clothes within 2 days. guess i need that wardrobe for university life. going school is like going for pageant. cannot su seh (lose out).
first time i could buy a shirt for 80 bucks and dun feel pain. :P

and my friend got me a shirt from switzerland. so sweet.
anyway this week gotta be a blast. only working for tue and wed. today, 100406 is a mon, attended engineer workplan seminar. so many speeches. yawnz. i thought jeans were not part of being smart casual. i look so formal, but at least i dress up instead of down.
wed having dinner with my hwa chong 03S74 guys. and then it's clubbing! zouk? anyone care to join, pls msg me :) thx.
now i need shoes... any one wanna retail therapy with me?
i need a holiday. KL? anyone?
btw, i do save. dun worry. i had 2 years premium set aside.

..:: 401. The One With Failure To Launch ::..
actually i watched 2 movies this week. failure to launch was a better movie i guess. firstly there's sarah jessica parker, from sex and the city, if u dunno. she got a bit of 'jennifer aniston' in her. shant dwell on the details of the movie. to sum it up, it is about SJP being 'hired' to get the male lead into relationship and moved out from their parents' and how they eventually fall in love. typical romantic comedy but who wouldnt like a happy ending?
the second movie was yours, ours & mine. It's about this widow with 10 kids and widower with 8 kids and both wanted to marry each other and form a really big family. the guy family is totally military and disciplined while the female side is more of expressive, no need to guess what happens when both families come together.
well had a long weekend, been catching up on sex and the city. woke up with a toothache, then only i realised i have another tooth growing out from my gum. ouch. drooling and painful for the whole day.
my friend i met today suddenly bumped me with a question. what am i trying to escape from for occupying myself with so much stuff?
mmm... am i really unhappy with what i am doing now? not really. yes my social life has taken quite a hit after i could not suggest anything fun to do on a saturday night. but i guess do you all have? besides hunting for places to eat, movies, ktv, games, club, pub, i am running out of ideas to spend weekends in singapore.
at least later i got to attend housewarming with my ocs buddies and ktv with my men.

..:: 400. The One With Dbl O Experience ::..
yeah it is my 400th post. Blogging is healthy, everyone should do it. I m busy unless told otherwise. should state this if not every week i have to start off by saying i am busy.
mon was an overwhelming experience for me and probably my platoon. early in the morning, i went straight to my office without drawing my arms and stuff as i thought i could draw them later. However, my admin told me the company has to go to the auditorium for a survey. Minutes after the survey has started, we heard a long siren. I was stunned for a while, my men immediately realised it was the activation alarm. my first time hearing it. Everyone sprinted back to our block. I freaked out knowing i have to draw my stuff. Mad rush but we made it on time under 7 mins.
S3(aka big shot) told my OC he knew we had a tight schedule that week so he took the initiative to check my standby stuff. wah, it has been a long time since 1. activation without prior warning. 2. activated by S3.
had a few recce trips later the week, i think i knew lim chu kang area quite well, no nid map already... :)
had CO parade on fri then went to East Coast Park for battalion outcamp run.

my OC addressing the company
Fri. I was finally 'jio-ed' for clubbing by my red cross frenz. Cant miss that. First we met at MOS had more than what i normally have. spent abt 250+, can consider drinking again next mth :) anyone keen?

We left MOS about 1+, then headed to Dbl O. first time there though i was underage :P Music was great :) too bad they closed early.

Red Cross Buddies (i am the only below 21. the rest are 21+++)

the guys.

the girl flirted with the waiter (dunno this term is correct). oops i sure gena beaten up.
deep in trance. aftermath of 'waterfall'
wild night. lots of dancing and drinking.
woke up at 10am to go bishan to meet my prudential agent. shack.
borrowed sex in the city. hehe... nice show apparently.
my friend going to the states soon, asked him help me buy charmed series and six feet under.

..:: 399. The One With Tough Week ::..
i had such a tough week where i am conducting exercise and doing standby. a lot of external factors caused me to look like i screwed up in my planning. shant bore u guys with the details but u will have to agree with me that army is not as efficient as you think. those who enter NS will know it's f*#@ed up. Anyway planning to do something if not i'll be like the rest only complain but no action.
managed to survive this week, next week should be a breeze. Cant wait to finish standby. what more thing i was fed up with, the army recruitment gal told me my backpay would come this month, when i went to check i only got my nsf pay, she checked it out and said it would be next month 0_0
guess i cant do my retail therapy.
went on a movie marathon. started at 10.05pm final destination 3. wah my first final destination show. for me i got nothing to compare so i thought it was 'wow' for me, with some gross scenes. 3.5 stars?
then immediately when the movie ends we (my friends) rushed to next cinema for dorm at 11.35pm. the thai movie where the prodcuers of 'shutter' come together. this movie was a total flop. firstly it was not even scary. Secondly, the story is more of the touching kind. i think i would give one star for such a lousy movie.
After that we rushed to our last movie, date movie at 1.35am. crappy movie. trying very hard to fix the movie together. same concept as scary movie. sure laugh but for its stupidity. 2 stars.
now left big momma house 2. too bad transamerica is R21.. :(
later haf to bring my sword to book in. got parade. sian
went out for dinner with my sis and friend. :)

..:: 397. The One With Movie Week ::..
yup. super into movie mood this week. shall indulge in that topic. firstly i won a pair of tickets to watch steven spielberg's classic munich. at first when i watched the trailer, i felt zzz. but i was pleasantly surprised...

It happened in september 1972 Munich Olympics, an extremist Palenstinian group known as Black September invaded the Olympics Village and killed 11 Israeli athletes. The movie is about the aftermath of the incident. The male lead, Eric Bana, was hired to be one of the killers to hunt down the 11 men accused of masterminding the murder at Munich.
What is nice about the movie is the suspense present everytime they planned an attack. Seeing the plan unfold is a thriller itself. Not every operation is a smooth one. In the movie, it showed why terrorism is a tough nut to crack. If you know a bit of history, this movie would be easier to understand. but overall, it's a really gd movie. with some gross scenes...

Next, let's move on to a more light hearted movie, Rumour has it by jennifer aniston. i watched it because of her. haha. she's really sexy though she's kinda small size. She may not be your typical Academy/Oscar/Golden globe actress but i just enjoy watching her. Feels like watching friends... the granny in the show is interesting. you will definitely laugh in the movie.
dun ask me what the story is about. cos the story plot is quite out of this world. i felt paying 8 bucks was worth it. unless you cant stand jennifer aniston, if not, you should watch it... relieve some stress la.
just feel like posting this:

view out of my kitchen.

and this too... my commissioning parade. looks damn cool. tough u may not be able to see me clearly.
oh btw, this was my costume for my chingay performance. i looked weird..

went out for dinner with my national camp. wah been about 1 year plus since i last seen them.

then there was this fireworks display at ngee ann city. launch of a new series of watch, brietling, i think.

haha these two days on course at toa payoh hdb hub. can slack.

naughty watching indecent stuff in class?!?!

anyway, on my wonderful birthday, i was on mission exercise. sad x3. i was afraid my bridge who not land properly.
my platoon had to build a bridge which was targetted to be completed in 16 hrs. my aim was to finish before midnight, breaking the record of the previous platoon. In exchange, the platoon can throw me inside the transit gap which was super filthy.
In the end, we DID it!!! i was so relieved. my platoon broke a few records. i had the fastest site marking and my platoon had the fastest decking timing. we took 14 hrs 20 mins. i was very happy cos we had a lot of hiccups at the start, my men were rather demoralised. but in the end, good weather was on my side too!

rewind back to 19 feb, went kbox with my best buddies... they were so sweet to celebrate my bdae... samuel, melvin, jeremy... we ate jap food and then sing kbox. wah simple afternoon but i was so happy. brought back memories.
Andy Sir first to hit my phone with greetings at 0046. i was fast asleep preparing for the exercise. lol.
bro Edmund the new hunk next door had this at 0801...yo john, happy bdae, hope ur days are filled with colours and wishing you all the best for ur career and future, cheers. so sweet hor? having army as a career, is there a future? lol. haf la of course, i dun dread signing on. i'm loving what i'm doing.
just as i started on my briefing at 0810, my elder sis, joanne beeped me with 'happy 20th bdae, wish u all the best'
haha sorry ar, i love to thank all my well-wishers, definitely give u guys a treat.
my national camp cadets, joey and enna seemed to want me to be happy for the rest of the year on my bdae. thanks!
to yenling and siu from my jc dance club, i will keep grooving and burn up the dance floor... dun worry.
Andy. thanks. glad u still remember :)
liang jun my eocc buddy, also from foxtrot remembers my bdae! shocked... touched... thanks. R21 shows no nid to go cinema still can watch :P
shannen. haha. must be surprised to see your name here. thanks for msging me while being a flower pot? lol. cant wait to see u in ntu this july. dun quit har.
my younger sis, qiu ying, msged me right after school to wish me happy bdae. dun worry la, i will treat u la. just score well this o level...
jeremy wishes me happy bdae and also to enjoy my mission. i did :)
and samuel for congratulating me on the completion of my exercise.
actually there's a lot to bitch about someone but not this entry la.
my rover broke down in the middle of the expressway. sat in the vehicle while it was being towed away is damn malu...

..:: 396. The One With Wants ::..
I want to take up DJing.
I want to take up hip hop dance classes
I want to learn driving
but where got time???
i realised i enjoy doing things my friends around me seldom do. :)
but just the above activities will cost me a bomb.
to spin records, i need a turntable and some other machines that will cost up to about 2k+, lessons about 800 bucks. hip hop lessons is 12 bucks per session. infinite number of lessons. driving, no nid to say la.
it's good to upgrade myself but i guess i should take it slowly. i shouldnt bite off more than what i can chew. But they are so tempting... arghz
i think i mentioned i have a busy schedule. every mth got an exercise. the super-like-to-multi-task-me got myself so much things to do... let revise my schedule...
start of my birthday = start of my mission
wanted to be the fastest platoon to launch the bridge as my birthday wish but like quite wasted hor. super stress about the mission. firstly, my men are not all fighting fit, a lot down with injuries... already down-strength cos quite a few down grading. next, the past 2 platoon completed the mission in a surprising timing. both PCs got 'worshipped'. i not only have to meet the normal timing which is 4am but obviously i cant lose out to the last platoon which has the same strength as mine, they completed at 12am. 4 hrs earlier than expected.
i can feel the pressure building... time for stress management.
my oc wanted us to clear ippt... i can easily get silver but gold, my chin up must train more. haven done for a long time.
after live firing, have to support in an exercise where all the PCs will be involved in intensive planning, together with the OCs... so we will be assessed by even higher commanders.
then in march, my platoon on standby :) so fun huh. scared they pull stunt activate the whole platoon to do exercise.
at the same time, i am conducting a mine exercise. yeah. so if they activate us, guess u see us rushing back like mad. middle of march, i am conducting another live firing exercise. cool eh.
our coy involved in commander training. so big shots from different divisions will join us :) we are the conducting.
my end-march holidays postponed cos we are supporting to organise for some army level seminar. cheers.
april. me conducting for combat shoot. prep for thailand :)
may. yeah can go overseas.. .yeah right. evaluation overseas exercise.
june. just when u thot the men can ord... my coy will be the experimenting coy for urban warfare :) plus live firing so haven officially arrow who is the conducting.
then i finally can go ntu after i worked my ass off. btw there's only army stuff.
red cross march i got camp. may i got cadet recognition day. in between need to conduct meetings, recce.
still got my sec sch alumni stuff to settle, have to set up committee, got events coming in april and may. guess i got enough energy to coordinate, not to conduct.
this year has been a blast for me. i'm glad i have a lot to learn. wish me a smooth journey.
i'm turning 20 this monday. happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday to JC, happy birthday to me :)
i'm still celebrating my bdae for 15 days :)
4 hrs earlier than expected.
i can feel the pressure building... time for stress management.
my oc wanted us to clear ippt... i can easily get silver but gold, my chin up must train more. haven done for a long time.
after live firing, have to support in an exercise where all the PCs will be involved in intensive planning, together with the OCs... so we will be assessed by even higher commanders.
then in march, my platoon on standby :) so fun huh. scared they pull stunt activate the whole platoon to do exercise.
at the same time, i am conducting a mine exercise. yeah. so if they activate us, guess u see us rushing back like mad. middle of march, i am conducting another live firing exercise. cool eh.
our coy involved in commander training. so big shots from different divisions will join us :) we are the conducting.
my end-march holidays postponed cos we are supporting to organise for some army level seminar. cheers.
april. me conducting for combat shoot. prep for thailand :)
may. yeah can go overseas.. .yeah right. evaluation overseas exercise.
june. just when u thot the men can ord... my coy will be the experimenting coy for urban warfare :) plus live firing so haven officially arrow who is the conducting.
then i finally can go ntu after i worked my ass off. btw there's only army stuff.
red cross march i got camp. may i got cadet recognition day. in between need to conduct meetings, recce.
still got my sec sch alumni stuff to settle, have to set up committee, got events coming in april and may. guess i got enough energy to coordinate, not to conduct.

..:: 395. The One With Happening Sia ::..
wah so long havent update... almost forgot what i wanna say. been really BUSY... see the caps, i really mean it. went for the chingay performance on sun, 12 feb. was fun standing on top of the float and waving to the public like some big shot... first time so many people wanna take pic with me, or with me inside. made a lot of new friends. knew that girl from McDonalds' commercial fantansic burger (something like that), the lead dancer. saw some outrageous costumes... lucky i am just in ethnic costume.
signed up with prudential... wah didnt know there's offer so i got a free ps2. anyway also no time to play...
damn stressed now, two platoons finished building the bridge (which was a mission) so fast that no other companies in the unit could do it. i'm the last platoon to do it. scared... hopefully can create a legend. lol.
went back to my sec school and got to know i became the alumni chairperson. great :) so many things... i still got cadet recognition day to start work on.

..:: 392. The One With North Country ::..
well north country is a movie in case you dunno that it's a big hit. 5 reasons why you should catch this movie.
1. The female cast is unbelievable... With 3 women who were Oscar winners in 3 different generations, so as to speak. Charlie Theron, Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek. You may not have watched any of their shows like myself, but i can assure u, this movie is worth even 9.50. a real classic. talk about girl power.
2. This movie is about Josie (Charlie Theron) who is one of the few female miners who pioneered and won the first sexual harrassment class action suit. i bet the 'sexual' is the next big reason for u to go watch it
3. The movie can make u cry and laugh. of course, it wont make u laugh until u cry, if not it would have been a comedy... you can definitely hear a lot of sniffing noises, a great vdae show if u wan your girl to cry on your shoulder.
4. a movie a girl should bring her guy to... especially if he is a MCP. male chauvinist pig he should 'soften' a bit. the story of josie and glory (Frances McDormand) would definitely melt your heart.
5. what? u really need 5 reasons to watch it? it is based on a true story.
i went to watch the movie without knowing what it is about and i loved it. it's a slow-paced movie but award winning films never disappointed me.
this week will be hell for me... but pay coming so definitely there's motivation.
gym gym gym. i really nid to gym.
early celebration next week. fri night to zouk! siu, if u see this, hopefully u can make it. any1 wanna come? i will be celebrating my bdae for 15 days. lol. sat lunch and dinner. any takers?
feel like making a new pair of specs... can relieve my eyes when i'm not outfield.
oh ya, there are a few great movies coming up. great as in something that interest me... so no guarantee it's worth the money.
rumor has it.final destination 3.munich (looks very chim in the preview).Jarhead a military movie.Date Movie something like scary movie.
finally rented lots of dvd for all the officers in mess to watch. officer mess life's great. caught flightplan. quite good.
got a birthday gift for my OC... shared with the rest of the PCs.
my duty officer day was thursday. luckily everything went well. no screw up.
looking forward to going back to study... haiz. cant wait. july seems like a long wait.
i'm quite surprised they allowed the news of the 'lost-now-found' rifle to be out to the public. maybe because it's found. lol. that lucky dude.
okie dokie. booking in soon.
cant wait. yeah right.

..:: 390. The One With Long Week ::..
this week kinda tired me out. firstly my oc wanted ippt training, so long nvr exercise, felt shack though the exercises were not as tough. seeing my men do so many chin-ups i also felt pressurised... after cny must really hit the gym everyday...
i got to conduct the advanced close combat training. it was kinda entertaining seeing my men do the stunts. then got whole loads of lesson plans to update. sian. spent most of the time in office doing admin work.
Fri we had combat shoot. no kick la conducting the range. enjoyed announcing 'firers, magazine of 5 rounds load and ready'. lol. air con room somemore.
then one of the platoon got activated for some stuff which i couldnt say here. cos even the media never report. the men had to stay in camp, i guess they must be in low spirits, knowing that they had to stay in camp after the shoot where the rest booked out.
but luckily the 'stuff' has been settled by this morning... phew.
happy chinese new year to all!

..:: 388. The One With Sunday ::..
just a normal sunday. went swimming and had a great tan. going to buy a new swimming trunk to swim in camp. was contemplating on buying a psp. but then again, dun haf a lot of games to excite me to buy. plus need to buy memory card which costs like 200+, i rather buy a 120gb hard disk. then was thinking of buying a 4gb nano cos my friend got lobang. thinking again whether to buy a dvd player. i think i have decided not to sign up gym membership first cos first half of the yr, i could exercise in camp.
definitely want to sign up for a credit card cos my friend who's a regular advised me. But of course not to overspend. Decided to take up dance classes which i have missed out so much during trainee days. probably in jitterbugs or studio wu. any1 wanna join me?
watched red eye 2 times today... addicted somehow. find rachel McAdams really captivating.. she just completely immersed into any role she plays. going to rent notebook, family stone soon. every film that has her in it. o_o

..:: 387. The One With Being A Regular ::..

dont mention ORD in front of me cos i'm a regular now! lol. that was my contract above. i finally got my LSA - local study award. Signed my fate on 6th Jan. But they back dated my service from the time i joined OCS so it was 30 Apr 2005.
Few congrats and gave me blessings. Many questioned why and some even why i was so foolish. I think joining the army has gave many negative perspective. i've seen a few who are happy to be in the service. I believe if you have the passion (if it does not die off), determination (refute all negative comments or thinking), correct learning attitude to ugrade and develop yourself, joining the army aint a bad choice. politics? where in the working world would u not face it? secure career, benefits and welfare... what more to ask for?
everyone wants to earn more money and what makes people think that they can earn more money if they are not in the army. True, but not everyone can. Sometimes i feel that i had to be realistic, be less complacent. I always thot i have the chance and capabilities to be up there or was made to achieve greater things. But after going thru' my jc years, getting to know even more people, army, not getting what i deserve after what i thought i have given my best, i think humility is important. Ever since being a regular, i felt different. i feel small? but i feel there's a lot to learn from, especially from those understanding seniors.
anyway, move away from the serious tone, had very busy week so havent been updating my blog... lol. thanks ed, sam, leo... for ever so supportive of my blog. had to book in early last week cos of some safety briefing for commanders for the apb training.
then the week was just apb training. it was a tedious training and i dreaded it ever since i was a cadet. Plus, knowing i have an overnight exercise in feb, on my birthday somemore... sian x 2. but i can always celebrate my birthday for 15 days, you know? lol. and once i get my regular pay i need to treat a few people. ok, i hear people shouting their names... :P
my OC's really nice. have i mention he dont believe in giving extras cos he dont believe in doing more duty officer duties would help us learn from the mistakes. :) he really looked into welfare of the commanders. bought breakfast for us waking up at 4.45am... supper for us when we were back from apb training. that whole week spent my night watching dvds in the mess till about 12-1am then waking up at 6am again.
being a platoon commander, for me, being a rather shy guy, my toughest task was to talk to the platoon. there were a lot of considerations... i wanted to give them a good impression so i had to plan what to say. it is not the case like dealing with cadets when u can just tell them your expectations and say everything in english, talk about discipline and fitness. definitely it would be good if you know something about each of them or even their names. First impression lasts and i wouldnt want to screw it up. then one of my senior had to keep pushing me 'hey i've talked to your platoon and they say you are very quiet' then during apb training, he was like 'hey go and talk to your platoon leh'. i mean he meant well but i am the person if i want to do something, i must make sure i'm able to do it well and definitely know what i am going to do. Not just go talk to the platoon without knowing what to say. u will need some skill. for me, i got one of my sect comd who is very 'gum'(good) with the platoon and while i talked, he helped me to make people talk more. soon, i found myself talking with them non-stop. they were more interested in who i was, where i come from and what kind of training i went through. It wasnt the time to tell them my expectations and discipline matters as everyone was quite tired.
my platoon had a dinner on fri and my upperstudy happily volunteered to sponser 200 bucks cos my PS gave 100. My PS not the kind who go harsh on the platoon and my upperstudy is someone who is kinda rash in his decisions and sometimes not very serious. But still, i have a lot to learn from him.
well, the PCs in my company really bonded very well, crapped a lot, but my fellow pc, maureen and me sensed something amiss. well... will have to wait and see.
admin work started to come in, i have to update lesson plans and let the CO endorse. Still got platoon interview to conduct. Monday supposed to be company off but there's a live firing ex going on so my OC suggested us to go along and learn. still waiting for his reply.
fri had a steamboat dinner at tian tian with the platoon. wah seeing my men drive cars, the more i want to start learning to drive.
btw really love Rachel McAdams... she's really versatile in her acting... rented a few DVDs, one of which was red eye. also got american pie: the band camp which i watched in mess and one of the senior officers came in and i was freaked out. but lucky the dvds were original.
anyway next week would be quite slack and hope advance pay come soon... going to celebrate my birthday... anyone got any suggestions... gonna have many mini celebration this year.
till then. adieu.
